狐狸与葡萄

A Fox one day spied a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree. The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the Fox's mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them.

又是某一天，有一只狐狸瞅见了一串漂亮的熟葡萄，葡萄当然是长在葡萄树上了，问题就是这葡萄树是沿着一棵树的枝干生长的，老高，轻易够不着。但是这串葡萄熟的啊，就好像一碰就能迸出汁儿来，狐狸呢？就两眼直勾勾地盯着人家，馋的那是直流口水。

The bunch hung from a high branch, and the Fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more. Again and again he tried, but in vain.

前面说了，这串葡萄挂在一个很高的树枝上，所以这狐狸必须要努力跳起来才有可能吃到它。他第一次起跳的时候，还差得老远才能够着。于是，他后退了一小段距离，跑着向它跳去，却再一次失败了。尽管他试了一遍又一遍，但均以失败告终。

Now he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust.

终于，他坐下来，看着那串葡萄，眼里满是嫌弃。

"What a fool I am," he said. "Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for."

“我真是太笨了，”他说。“我在这里费尽心思，就为了得到一串根本不值得花功夫的酸葡萄。”

And off he walked very, very scornfully.

于是，他就掉头走了，满是不屑地走了。

There are many who pretend to despise and belittle that which is beyond their reach.

正所谓：吃不到葡萄就说葡萄酸。
